Taking pets to Spain is now a relatively easy process under the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS).
In order to qualify for PETS, your animals must be fitted with a microchip, vaccinated against rabies and have a final blood test to ensure that the vaccination is present in their bloodstream. All of this and the necessary documentation can be provided by a vet in the UK and takes a total of 6 months. It is important that pet owners take this timescale into account in order to prevent their animals from having to enter quarantine.
Pets can travel from a number of UK airports and with some airlines it is possible to fly on the same plane as your pet. The airline will advise you as to the size of carrier you need when you book you pet’s flight.
