Transport

Generally, the roads in Spain are of a very high quality and there is an excellent motorway system throughout the country. It takes a few days to get used to driving on the right-hand side of the road but you will already be familiar with most of the road signs.

Permanent residents in Spain cannot drive cars with foreign license plates, so if you plan on taking your car over with you, you must arrange to transfer to Spanish plates. You have six months to do this from the date of your arrival.

Under EU regulation, if you have an EU photo card driving license you do not have to apply for a Spanish license. You must always carry you driving license and vehicle registration documents in Spain and failure to do so can result in an instant fine.

For those who do not wish to drive in Spain, there is the option of public transport. Buses run between most Spanish villages and along the coastline and there are several options within the larger towns and cities.

Some Town Halls also provide extra transport for free during the summer months where the tourist trade is particularly prevalent.
